Salary: Full time starting salary is normally in the range £35,880 to £45,163 with potential progression once in post to £47,874

Background
We are seeking to recruit a registered nurse (adult, mental health, and/or child) to contribute to supporting the University of Birmingham (UoB), School of Nursing and Midwifery (SoN&M) expanded undergraduate and postgraduate pre-registration nursing portfolios. You will join a team who are working to ensure our students continue to receive excellent clinical skills and simulation-based learning.
The school offers a range of routes leading to registration including a three-year Bachelor of Nursing, a four-year Master of Nursing, and a two-year postgraduate MSc programme. The school also offers a range of programmes aimed at qualified practitioners including Advanced Clinical Practice, independent prescribing, and an MSc Midwifery (RN to RM).
Main Duties
- Teach courses at a range of levels to undergraduates, postgraduates and CPD students, predominantly through practical demonstration and simulation, and if required formal lectures and seminars, so that the School’s learning objectives are met.
- Contribute to the design of content, modules and operationalisation of curricula with other colleagues.
- Plan and prepare own teaching, including guidance notes and handouts in accordance with the established objectives of the programme and University best practice.
- Devise and supervise projects, student dissertations and skills/simulated clinical learning
- Develop an approach to planning, reviewing and evaluating own teaching.
- Undertake full range of responsibilities in relation to providing formative and summative feedback, supervision, marking and examining. (This will include assessed work contributing to the final award – as a mark or as a credit – such as objective structured clinical examinations [OSCEs]).
- Promote equality and value diversity acting as a role model in the simulated and classroom context fostering an inclusive working and learning culture.
- Frequently update own subject expertise.
- Undertake personal professional development in teaching and learning, including self-reflection on own teaching, using student and peer review feedback, to enhance own teaching and learning practice.
- Undertake management/administration activities arising from the planning, delivery and assessment of learning.
- Contribute to Departmental/School teaching-related activities and teaching-related administration.
- Contribute to knowledge transfer, enterprise, business development and/or public engagement activities that has of manifest benefit to the College and the University, often under supervision of a project leader.
Person Specification
- Bachelor degree in a healthcare or cognate discipline
- Registered Nurse (RN) child, adult or mental health field or dual qualified with the Nursing and Midwifery Council
- Working within a Healthcare setting with the option to maintain links where possible to maintain clinical currency whilst in the TF post
- Evidence of interest in the use of high-fidelity simulation-based learning and support the development of others to optimise learning through simulation based learning
