Arts University Bournemouth

About the role

We are seeking a Technician to join our Live Performance and Events team providing high quality technical support to a broad range of courses and activities. With practical experience providing technical support within the live performance and/or events sectors, you will have a good working knowledge of lighting, sound, and/or video equipment and software, and experience in the planning and assembly of simple stage and exhibition structures.

Providing broad technical support to students and staff, you will also contribute to the planning and delivery of a wide variety of projects including theatrical productions, live events and exhibitions. Previous experience of working in an educational institution would be advantageous, while an understanding and appreciation of workplace health, safety and welfare, and the ability to work as a member of a team and independently using your own initiative are essential.

Key duties of this post include supporting the delivery of technical and health and safety workshops and demonstrations to groups of students on new and existing equipment, resources, processes and techniques; assembling and operating equipment to support live productions and events; and undertaking first line maintenance of equipment and maintaining inventories and asset lists. Other duties include ensuring processes are followed and documentation produced to maintain and manage health, safety and welfare; and providing effective and reactive technical support throughout the working day, often across the wider university community supporting collaborative activities and projects.

You will need to be flexible in your approach to the working day and environment as this varied post supports a diverse range of individuals and projects and will entail evening and weekend working. Regular travel and transportation of resources to various university sites and external venues and locations will be required, for which a full UK driving licence is necessary.

You must possess GCSE minimum grade C/4, or equivalent, in English and Maths, and a level 3 qualification in a relevant related subject. You will also have either a relevant degree qualification or significant professional experience in an appropriate field.

Our benefits

In meeting your performance expectations, each year you’ll have a salary increase in line with the grade of your role.  As well as this there is an annual cost of living increase.  AUB provides generous holiday entitlement, and you will be enrolled in the Local Government Pension Scheme (professional services staff) or the Teachers’ Pension Scheme (academic staff) from day one of employment.  Along with subsidised bus travel, cycle to work and annual savings schemes, our broad range of benefits can be explored on the AUB careers website https://aub.ac.uk/working-at-aub.

AUB has an agile working policy, and flexible working can be considered.  If you require support with your application or have any questions about the role or recruitment process, please email recruitment@aub.ac.uk . If you are disabled, we are committed to supporting you with any reasonable adjustments you require, so please email recruitment@aub.ac.uk and we’ll be in touch.
