About the role

Where an individual applies to join the University from a clinical NHS role, a market supplement may apply.

Come and join our brilliant and friendly team! As part of the growth and development of our Clinical Psychology provision, we are looking for highly motivated lecturers to join us in delivering our postgraduate programme, and to contribute to our high-quality research profile. The post-holder will become part of a friendly, hard-working and dedicated team of academics who deliver the Professional Doctorate in Clinical Psychology.

The University of Staffordshire Professional Doctorate in Clinical Psychology is delivered in partnership with local clinical psychologists in Shropshire and Staffordshire. The over-arching framework for the programme is the impact of Society and Context on psychological well-being and there is an emphasis on prevention, early intervention, innovative practice, and the importance of critical and contextual thinking.  Our service user and carer group have a central role in contributing to and influencing all aspects of programme delivery. As a programme we are committed to fostering an inclusive culture which promotes equality and diversity. Applications are sought from enthusiastic, team-orientated and flexible individuals.

Our trainee cohorts remain comparatively small at an intake of 24 per year. This means we prioritise working closely and supportively with colleagues and our trainees.

We benefit from superb purpose-built facilities in a £30 million Science Centre, and we work across the region with several organisations and agencies, including NHS, third sector, social enterprise and charitable organisations. Putting the students first is at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to providing an excellent student experience through exciting and innovative programmes and research and practice informed teaching at every level.

Programme staff are employed by the University of Staffordshire and are responsible to the relevant Director for their strand of work.

Main Responsibilities

The post-holder will contribute to the research strand of doctoral training as a Research Tutor. We are particularly keen to attract candidates with either a strong background or interest/track record in research or passion for supporting trainee research and developing the evidence base for our profession. The post-holder will support with teaching and assessment on research modules on the programme, supervise several trainee doctoral research projects each year and provide academic mentoring to our trainees. There is an expectation that the post-holder will contribute to other routine programme requirements such as with selection involvement and viva examinations.

We are keen to recruit an applicant with the skills to independently support trainees to design, plan and analyse their doctoral level research. We are looking for expertise in quantitative methods, but with a willingness to upskill in qualitative methods to be able to support a broader range of trainee research. The successful applicant will either have a clinical psychology qualification or hold a relevant Ph.D. with sufficient relevant post-qualification experience and have experience of supervising research at undergraduate or postgraduate level. Previous experience of undertaking NHS and/or clinical psychology research, undertaking independent research and a track record of publications is desirable. However, our first priority is recruiting staff with a shared value-base, and we are committed to mentoring and supporting the right people in their transition into these roles.
