The role

Funded by UKRI and the European Commission, the School of Modern Languages of the University of Bristol and the MSCA Doctoral Training Network ‘Remediating the Early Book: Pasts and Futures’ (REBPAF) is seeking to recruit a full-time doctoral researcher to undertake research on the transformation of Charlemagne literature in the period of transition from manuscript to early printed book. The successful applicant will join an international community and gain hands-on work experience in related cultural sectors as part of the doctoral training. The successful candidate will receive an attractive salary in accordance with the MSCA regulations for recruited researchers, which includes a mobility allowance. Full PhD funding is guaranteed for 36 months.

What will you be doing?

The postholder will conduct doctoral research and participate in training and research activities to further the aims of the MSCA Doctoral Network ‘REBPAF’. REBPAF seeks to advance our understanding of the ways in which 15th- and 16th-century book producers negotiated the relations between the manuscript book and the printed book and adapted to the evolving market, and demonstrates the continuing relevance of these negotiations to the modern world. REBPAF unites the interests of present-day organisations that re-mediate the early book with those of academic scholarship. REBPAF has the aim of: 1) engaging a new generation in an innovative and collaborative research programme that asks fundamental and interdisciplinary questions about the history of the book and the written word and its future in a digital environment; and 2) equipping the researchers recruited to this network with high-level transferable skills and competencies through internships and training workshops provided by non-academic partners that have an interest in our research.
