With over 40 members from more than 15 countries, the Economics group at the University of Surrey (https://www.surrey.ac.uk/economics) enjoys a strong reputation for research and teaching in Economics, built upon a commitment to high quality, rigorously founded applied and theoretical research, often of direct policy significance. We have recently invested heavily to recruit staff whose innovative work is having a large impact on international research agendas, as evidenced by ranking 10th for Economics in the latest research assessment exercise (REF2021).
To support our growth strategy, we would like to make an appointment at the Lecturer (Assistant Professor) level, to start in September 2025. As a new academic staff member, you’ll have the opportunity to fully immerse yourself in the intellectual life of our research group. You will be fully supported to extend your high-quality research agenda and build research networks, both within economics and beyond it. As appropriate, you will be encouraged to participate in externally funded collaborative research projects. Through your teaching you’ll have the opportunity to play a key role in the leadership, engagement and satisfaction of our student population at any level, including the opportunity to mentor and support our outstanding MSc and PhD students.
We encourage applications from any field within economics and this year we particularly encourage applications from candidates specialising in econometrics.
What we can offer
In return we offer a competitive salary, a generous pension, relocation assistance where appropriate, flexible working options including job share and blended home/campus working locations (dependent on work duties), access to world-class leisure facilities on campus, a range of travel schemes and supportive family friendly benefits including an excellent on-site nursery.
Further information
To apply, please submit a cover letter indicating how your profile would enhance the School’s research and teaching environments, as well as a copy of your CV, via our website.
Informal enquiries should be directed in the first instance to Professors Joao Santos Silva (jmcss@surrey.ac.uk), Valentina Corradi (v.corradi@surrey.ac.uk), Federico Martellosio (f.martellosio@surrey.ac.uk) or Holger Breinlich (h.breinlich@surrey.ac.uk), via email, with "Surrey appointments 2025” in the subject line.
Interviews will be held on an ongoing basis and we reserve the right to close this role once a suitable candidate has been identified.
At Surrey, we are committed to providing an inclusive environment that offers equitable opportunities for all, in the pursuit of Surrey’s vision to be a leading global University. Appointments will always be made on merit.
