The role

The School of Computer Science at the University of Bristol wishes to hire an outstanding candidate to fill a new senior professorial position in Visual Computing. A surge in successful activities includes the award of two new Doctoral Training Centres in Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity, an unprecedented scale of government investment to create Isambard AI, the UK's most powerful supercomputer, a multi-million pound Bristol-led AI research hub in Collective Intelligence, and the £300m Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus under development including the recent opening of facilities, labs and collaboration spaces for MyWorld, our major regional activity in creative technologies. The Bristol region is acknowledged as a leading centre for visual computing. The MyWorld research programme, led by the University, builds on the strengths of this regional cluster and on its international connectivity. The post will be appointed on the Professorial scale, dependent on experience.

The appointee will be expected to contribute to leadership and development of the MyWorld programme, its legacy and related facilities, as well as the strategic leadership of Immersive and Creative technologies within the School and across the wider University and region. The research focus of this post is linked to the strategic objectives of MyWorld, covering a broad span of visual computing fields including novel immersive technologies, experiences and services, real-time delivery, advanced post-production techniques and systems, machine learning methods and user experience measurement.

You should apply if

The postholder will contribute to the University’s impressive record of consistently delivering world-leading research, as demonstrated in REF 2021: in Unit of Assessment 11 (Computer Science and Informatics), Bristol was graded as 68% 4* overall, ranking 7th in the UK for Computer Science research. The School prides itself on its academic quality and its collegiality. We are incredibly proud of our outstanding working environment with dedicated professional services and technical teams, a very high standard of achievement in research and education, and a culture of inclusivity and kindness.
