1. University Introduction
Dalian University of Technology (DUT) is a national key university in Liaoning, China. It is affiliated with the Ministry of Education and is part of Project 211, Project 985, and the Double First-Class Construction. The university has four first-level national key disciplines and six second-level national key disciplines. 2. School Introduction
The School of Optoelectronic Engineering and Instrument Science at DUT is located in the main Lingshui campus of the university in Dalian. It was established in January 2017 as a new emerging school to achieve the university’s “Double First Class” goal. The school continuously improves its talent cultivation system and enhances teaching quality. Its two majors "Optoelectronic Information Science and Engineering" and "Measurement, Control Technology, and Instrumentation" have been recognized as national first-class undergraduate majors. The school currently has 51 faculty members, including 1 national high-level talent, 2 national-level 'young talents', and 2 chief scientists of national key defense-innovation projects. Researchers have developed rapidly within the college, with several of them successfully selected for national-level programs such as “National High-Level Talent Special Support Programs (10,000 Talents Program) - Young Talents”, “Science Fund Program for Excellent Young Scientists (Overseas) of the National Natural Science Foundation”, and "Youth Talents Support Project." The school focuses on addressing national major strategic needs and key technological challenges through collaborative research efforts and team-based approaches. The college’s research funding has seen rapid growth, and it has undertaken nearly 200 research projects, with research revenue exceeding one million yuan per person for consecutive years.

5. Introduction to the scientific research team
(I) Microwave Photonic Sensing and Detection Team
Leader: Professor Zhao Mingshan
Facing the challenges posed by future multi-dimensional electromagnetic information sensing in terms of signal processing algorithms, data computational demands, system power consumption, and structural complexity, our team has made breakthroughs in core technologies such as multi-beam optoelectronic fusion for three-dimensional information processing, broadband spectral planar integrated microwave photonic front-ends, and multi-channel high-frequency large-bandwidth optoelectronic device/module integration packaging. These advancements provide crucial technical support for equipment such as satellite communications and radars.
Over the past five years, we have undertaken more than 30 national projects, with a research funding of 170 million yuan. We have been honored with three provincial and ministerial-level awards, including the Second Prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, and have published over 160 academic papers in high-level journals. Additionally, we have obtained more than 30 international and Chinese invention patents.
(II) Material-Structure-Function Integrated & Micro/Nano Optoelectronic Technology Team
Leader: Professor Cao Tun
Focusing on the direction of national strategic needs, the team encourages members to conduct interdisciplinary research at the forefront of the field. The primary research areas include functional material technology, micro-nano optics and technology, light field regulation and applications, and optical imaging. The team has solid research expertise and working conditions in the field of information optoelectronic technology, enabling the completion of the full workflow from material growth to structural processing and comprehensive performance characterization.
The research group consists of 16 fixed members, including 1 professor, 3 associate professors, 6 assistant professors, 2 postdoctoral researchers, and 4 engineers. The group members possess strong backgrounds in fundamental research and engineering applications. Over the past three years, the group has published more than 140 high-impact papers in authoritative journals in the fields of optics, optoelectronics, and advanced intelligent materials. These include over 100 first-tier papers, 9 cover articles, and citations exceeding 4,000 times. Publications have appeared in journals such as Advanced Materials, Physical Review Letters, Advanced Functional Materials, Light: Science & Applications, Nano Energy, ACS Nano, Nano Letters, and Laser & Photonics Reviews.
(III) Laser Spectroscopy and Remote Sensing Team
Leader: Professor MEI Liang
To meet the urgent needs of energy, aviation, environment, agriculture, etc., we are mainly focusing on novel technologies in the fields of optical frequency comb spectroscopy, photoacoustic spectroscopy, lidar, 3D imaging, etc., and developing new optical sensing instruments in applications of hazardous gas detection, precision industrial measurement, target detection and tracking, atmospheric environment monitoring, food security, etc.
We have undertaken more than 10 national projects such as the National Key R&D Program and the National Natural Science Foundation of China. We have also received the Second Prize for Technical Invention from the Chinese Society of Optical Engineering and published over 100 international peer-reviewed journal papers.
(IV) Advanced Manufacturing and Future Chips Team
Leader: Professor David Li
Focusing on fundamental scientific problems and key common challenges in cutting-edge optoelectronic materials and chip manufacturing, the team conducts interdisciplinary research in the development and fabrication of novel optoelectronic materials, testing of material properties, research and manufacturing of advanced semiconductor chips, and their applications in micro-/nano-optoelectronics, information storage, artificial intelligence, biochemical sensing, etc.
Undertaken over 20 research projects, including those funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), major projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology, provincial and ministerial-level initiatives, and enterprise research collaborations. Published more than 100 SCI-indexed papers in leading journals such as Physical Review Letters and Nature Communications. Applied for and granted over 20 national invention patents.
(V) Power Electronics and Sensing Integration Team
Leader: Professor Huang Huolin
In response to the national strategic demand for domestic chips, the team conducts research in (ultra-)wide bandgap semiconductor power electronics, intelligent sensing, memory storage, and instrument manufacturing. Have achieved a series of original scientific breakthroughs, which have been successfully applied and promoted by leading companies such as China Resources Microelectronics and Huawei. Our work provides critical technical support for industries including new energy vehicles, 5G/6G communication, smart healthcare, and magnetic anomaly detection equipment.
Undertaken over 30 research projects, funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), and other agencies. Received 3 provincial/ministerial-level science and technology awards. Published over 120 high-impact academic papers. Granted more than 50 U.S. and domestic invention patents.
(VI) Advanced Optical Imaging Team
Leaders. Professor Ma Donghan, Professor Zhang Pengfei
The team focuses on life sciences and biomedical exploration, conducting research in areas such as single-molecule localization super-resolution microscopy and retinal multimodal optical imaging. We develop innovative optical structural and functional imaging technologies for biological tissues, build imaging platforms, design and implement algorithms and software, aiming to develop high-performance scientific research instruments.
Recently, we have undertaken five major projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation and Research Institutes, published over 50 SCI papers in prestigious journals like Nature Methods, Nature Communications, and PNAS, and filed six patents.
(VII) Intelligent instrument and equipment Team
Leader: Professor Xiaoming Chen
The team focuses on the significant demands in the fields of national energy, rail transportation, and optoelectronics, conducting innovative research in areas such as ultrasonic non-destructive testing, deep learning, signal processing, intelligent control, micron-level laser welding, biomedical optoelectronic applications, and optoelectronic devices. Professor Chen Xiaoming has provided vital support for electromagnetic ultrasonic testing of long rails and AI control of large domestically produced centrifugal compressor units, achieving internationally advanced and domestically leading results. In recent years, he has undertaken more than 20 projects for national entities, including PetroChina, the Railway Group, and ShenGu Group.
Professor Cui Xiangchen has made remarkable achievements in industry-university collaboration, having received awards from Taiwan's technology department four times. He has cooperated with high-tech enterprises to develop laser products and rapid fluorescence spectroscopy technology, successfully addressing technical challenges in the optoelectronics field. The team supports the development of intelligent devices and optoelectronic technology through interdisciplinary collaborative innovation.
