About your role:

We are seeking a highly motivated and analytical Market Intelligence and Data Analyst to join our growing team. This key role forms part of a dedicated market research/intelligence/insights team within the Marketing and Communications Department's Product team.  

In this role, you will collaborate with the Market Research and Analysis Manager and a small team of experienced analysts, including another specialist Market Intelligence and Data Analyst and an expert Market Research and Analysis Officer. Together, you will deliver critical, timely data and insights to underpin strategies around student recruitment and reputation and to inform portfolio strategy.  

This highly impactful role will provide a range of outputs and insights to help to shape strategic and operational activity across Marketing and Communications and beyond.   

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with extensive experience of quantitative data analysis. The role will particularly suit those with prior experience in a data analysis, data insights, market intelligence or business intelligence role.  

We operate a hybrid working model that allows staff to combine on-site and remote working where appropriate, dependent on work duties.

Your role will need you to:

  • Develop and maintain a suite of Power BI dashboards used to interrogate a range of internal and external datasets.
  • Utilise industry standard programs and programming languages (e.g., Alteryx, Microsoft Power BI, DAX, SQL, Python, R, Microsoft Excel, etc.) to analyse complex datasets and create clear and concise analyses, reports, presentations, dashboards and data visualisations to communicate insights and recommendations to a range of stakeholders, including senior management.
  • Identify, obtain and analyse large datasets from various internal and external sources that can be leveraged to provide actionable insights (e.g., Tribal SITS student record system, HESA, UCAS).
  • Work in collaboration with Planning and IT teams to manage and maintain admissions data stored in the data warehouse.
  • Contribute to the development of market-informed strategies and initiatives that enhance the University’s competitive advantage.
  • Support the wider team in ensuring the university’s course portfolio meets the needs and expectations of potential future students. 

You will have:

  • Good first degree.
  • Significant experience working in a data analysis, data insights, market intelligence or business intelligence role in a complex organisation – HE experiences would be advantageous. 
  • Ability to convey complex and often nuanced information and recommendations to a range of stakeholders. 
  • Excellent IT skills including solid experience using industry-standard software/languages for data analysis, reporting, dashboarding and visualisation. (e.g., Alteryx, Microsoft Power BI, DAX, SQL, Python, R, Microsoft Excel, etc.)
  • Experience of commissioning or undertaking quantitative data analysis 
  • Experience of producing and disseminating complex reports 
  • Experience of defining, analysing and interpreting statistical information 
  • Experience using a wide array of different data sources to find information 
  • Appreciation of data modelling and data warehousing would be advantageous.
