Widening Participation and Social Mobility are excited to announce recruitment for a Student Inclusion Manager (Interim) to manage the Student Inclusion Team, and will have responsibility for leading on initiatives which support the experiences of our currently under-represented student groups. This post is being recruited as maternity cover, and is therefore a fixed term and interim position until December 2025.
The Student Inclusion Team are based in the University's Student Success department, sitting alongside Financial Support. The team’s work is closely aligned to the University’s Access and Participation Plan, which seeks to support the success of our students from backgrounds currently under-represented in higher education. You would lead our team of co-ordinators to deliver a range of interventions and activities to support our priority groups, including our work for mature students; young carers; care experienced and estranged students; Free School Meal recipients, and students from IMDQ1 postcodes.
With the launch of our Access and Participation Plan, this is an exciting time to join the team, and this role will have responsibility for continuing to develop and drive forward projects that are central to our new commitments. This includes Ignite Your Success, part of the University's flagship widening participation programme, which offers students a holistic package of support to facilitate their development as leaders and succeed within both their degree and beyond. You will also have a role in advancing our work that sits outside of our new Access and Participation Plan, ensuring that all priority student groups are able to succeed at university through access to equitable opportunities.
In addition to the line management of a team of four, you will play a central role in promoting the team’s work across the wider university population. You would be expected to build relationships across several teams, both within Professional Services and Faculties, to ensure that the needs of priority student groups are met, and that the team’s work remains visible to all. You will also play a central role in ensuring that the team's offer is accessible to any priority students in need of support.
The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills and management experience, be experienced in supporting the delivery of projects, be able to manage their own time, and have a strong understanding of the widening participation and social justice agendas in higher education. We strongly encourage applications from candidates from backgrounds currently under-represented in higher education and would be happy to discuss the role in more detail as required.
