The Departments:

The Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP) and the Department of Pure Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics (DPMMS) are large departments with around 50 and 40 academics (professors, readers and lecturers) respectively and almost 100 and 40 contract research staff respectively. The Faculty of Mathematics is a member of the School of Physical Sciences at the University of Cambridge.

The Role:

Once fully resourced, the HR team will be made up of the HR Manager, One HR Coordinator, and two HR Administrators. The HR team in the Faculty of Mathematics is responsible for providing an efficient, comprehensive, and professional HR service, supporting the effective operation of the Faculty.

The role holder will support the HR Manager, work closely with the HR Coordinator, and other HR Administrator, and will provide administrative support for the day-to-day operational HR function, supporting with recruitment administration, updating and maintaining employee records and the HR database, processing employee change requests, and acting as a first point of contact for HR queries.

About You:

You will have good administrative/office experience, effective communication and people skills, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to work autonomously at times, without direction.

You will also have excellent attention to detail, can work with empathy, discretion and diplomacy, due to the nature of working in HR, and be able to remain calm if dealing with a difficult situation.

Whilst prior HR/Recruitment Administration experience is advantageous, it is not essential. The successful candidate will show an eagerness to learn and be pro-active in developing their knowledge of HR best practice and employment law.
