THE PROJECT
The University of Essex in partnership with Horus Security offers an exciting opportunity to the successful candidate to revolutionise the pre-employment screening service the company provides to customers by leveraging AI and natural language processing, enabling the development of novel automated screening products for their clients.
This post is fixed term for 30 months and is based at Horus Security’s offices in Oxford (hybrid working following an initial period of office-based work).
DUTIES OF THE POST
The duties of the post will include:
- Investigating new methodologies drawing from the fields of natural language processing, text analytics, web mining, game theory, statistics, machine learning, deep learning and artificial intelligence broadly defined.
- Prototyping investigated methods using R or Python for rapid sandbox deployment.
- Creating relevant ETL scripts to extract, transform and load data from multiple sources that can feed into and inform the algorithms for the AI product and its users.
- Large-scale collection and curation of both structured and unstructured data from multiple sources using third-party APIs
- Scaling successful prototype code using Spark and Scala to take advantage of distributed computing
- Creating thorough documentation including functional and technical specifications, well-documented code and extensive use of BitBucket for version control.
- Working in sprints following an Agile / Scrum project management methodology.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications:
- BSc in Computer Science or related fields.
- MSc in Data Science, AI, or a similar field, or equivalent industry experience.
- PhD in Computer Science or related fields, or be near completion, or relevant industry experience.
Skills/Knowledge:
- Good theoretical and applied knowledge in statistical and computational techniques, particularly Natural Language Processing, classification methods and machine learning
- Knowledge and interest in data visualization.
- Excellent understanding of data science techniques, especially with reference to statistics and machine learning.
- Excellent knowledge of at least one query/SQL language (MySQL,PostgreSQL or Hive).
- Excellent knowledge of at least one programming language (Java,Python,R,Scala).
Experience:
- Experience working with large data sets (structured/unstructured)
- Experience/knowledge of working with data from online social networks such as Twitter including obtaining data from Application Programming Interfaces (APIs).
- Some previous experience of fusing disparate data streams using e.g. APIs.
