The Role

We are seeking an excellent academic to join our staff as a Lecturer in Education (with Specialism in Digital literacy). They should have a Doctorate in Education (or cognate area) or be nearing completion of their Doctorate. The preferred candidate will be expected to make a strong contribution to the teaching programme of the Department, undertake teaching duties on the Department’s Initial Teacher Education programmes at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels and contribute to Master’s and Doctoral level modules and supervision, as well as conducting placement supervision. They will have the theoretical and professional knowledge required to develop student teachers’ digital literacy and education technology skills to support their practice in classrooms and schools. Experience of working in teacher education and researching into school-based settings is highly desirable. Modelling and developing innovative practices in digital literacy for students and colleagues in the Department will be central to the role. The preferred candidate will also be able to work collaboratively in supporting the collegial work of the Department and to assume administrative and course leadership duties as required on the Department’s programmes.

The appointee will be expected to build a strong research profile that supports the University’s research strategy, including affiliating to the Research Institutes, where appropriate, and working with colleagues on national and international research. The appointee will be expected to sustain and conduct research, engage in scholarship of quality and substance, undertake engaged research, and generate publications of international standard. They will be expected to supervise research students up to doctoral level. The person appointed will have a record of teaching, research and publication, appropriate to career stage.

Salary

Assistant Professor/Lecturer: €62,855 – €99,533 p.a. (7 points)

Assistant Lecturer: €40,682 – €69,887  p.a. (14 points)

Appointments will be made in accordance with public sector pay provisions.
