Background

International BMS Fellowship (IBMSF) is one of The College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering (CCME) at Peking University’s flagship schemes for training Early Career Researchers and increasing the diversity of our college with competitive salary (£33,795 to £45,060 converted salary* per annum, depending on experience). This represents a strategic investment in outstanding researchers who will shape our future research portfolio. The Fellowship is an excellent stepping stone to establishing an independent research career and gaining a permanent academic position. In 2025, the fellowship will have more opportunities to delve into research across various chemical disciplines and to participate in interdisciplinary studies.’ Outstanding candidates in science and engineering who are outside of these areas will also be considered and are encouraged to apply. The College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering at Peking University

The College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering (CCME) at Peking University is a robust academic hub, consisting of five academic departments and five research institutes. CCME boasts a distinguished faculty and staff of over 200 members, including 76 research groups. The college laboratories are equipped with state-of-the-art instruments and facilities, providing comprehensive and high-quality experimental training for chemical education and research. In recent years, CCME has secured a substantial amount of funding annually from external sources and has garnered several major research and education awards. CCME has played a pivotal role in the advancement of chemical education and research globally.

Application should include a CV (max. 2 pages), full list of peer-reviewed publications (no page limit), a research proposal (max. 2 pages, minimal margin 2 cm, and minimal font size 11), and 3 reference letters (one must be from the applicant's doctoral advisor or postdoc advisor in current institution, and one must be from the prospective advisor at CCME).

Selection Criteria

The criteria for appointment will be based upon:

  • Overall potential of the fellow to establish and maintain a distinctive and outstanding research and innovation activity
  • Quality of the proposal, particularly in relation to potential impact and deliverables
  • The relevance of the proposal to funders, industrial and/or policy stakeholders 

Selection Process

Application will be reviewed initially by a panel and shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview. We aim to communicate the final outcome to the applicant within 6 weeks upon receiving the application. 

Length of Fellowship

The successful fellow will be supported for 2-3 years. 

Salary

300,000 – 400,000 RMB per annum (approximately £33,795 to £45,060 GBP), depending on skills and experience.
