The Associate Professor in Criminology opportunity is a balanced research and teaching position – the area of research specialisation is open.

The successful candidate will have experience in designing and delivering Criminology courses, using innovative teaching methods. The successful candidate will also tender a significant track record of high-quality research outputs in Criminology, relative to opportunity.

The School of Social Sciences comprises five Departments: Anthropology and Development Studies; Asian Studies; Geography, Environment and Population, Politics and International Relations; and Sociology, Criminology and Gender Studies. Combining a vibrant and innovative teaching environment with a strong research culture, the School offers an intellectually stimulating environment in which to work.

To be successful you will need:

  • A PhD in Criminology or related discipline.
  • An established research track record in Criminology of international standing, evidenced by high quality publications, and leading successful collaborations. While the area of research specialisation is open, priority will be given to applicants with a track record in cybercrime, digital criminology, illicit networks, policing, or digital forensics.
  • Demonstrated success in leading competitive research grants and other sources of external funding.
  • Demonstrated record of success in designing, coordinating, and delivering Criminology courses (undergraduate and postgraduate levels), and using innovative teaching and learning methods (including in face-to-face, blended and online contexts).
  • Demonstrated record of success leading and directing teaching programs, including through the coordination of teaching staff/resources, curriculum design, implementation, review, and other teaching administration.
  • Demonstrated record of success as a supervisor, evidenced by the timely completion of PhD, Masters, Honours and Internship students.
  • Demonstrated leadership in developing collaborative relationships with external bodies, such as government and industry, as a means of generating innovative research, educational, and engagement outcomes.
  • Demonstrable leadership experience across areas of academic service and University administration.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively and constructively with staff, students and industry across interdisciplinary settings.
