Professor and Chair

The Department of Natural Science and Mathematics, housed within the School of Computer Science and Mathematics, is one of the strategic priorities for KIMEP University. The goal is to foster excellence in education and research across various disciplines of natural sciences and mathematics. The Chair will have the opportunity to shape the department’s mission and core values, hire faculty members, and develop innovative curricula that reflect cutting-edge knowledge in these fields.

The appointment will start in Fall 2025 (August 2025).

Qualifications

Applicants for the Chair and Professor position must have earned a PhD in a relevant discipline within Natural Sciences or Mathematics, preferably from a well-regarded institution. Candidates should have demonstrated consistent and high-quality scholarship published in peer-reviewed journals indexed in SCI or Scopus. The Chair should hold the rank of Associate Professor or Professor and possess a proven track record of leadership, academic excellence, and innovative program development.

Almaty, Kazakhstan

The city of Almaty is a beautiful, modern, and vibrant city situated at the base of the majestic Tien Shan Mountains in Southeast Kazakhstan. The city has a population of 2 million people and is the financial, cultural, summer and winter sports, and cosmopolitan capital of Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan is located in the heart of Eurasia with important commercial inroads bridging Asia and Europe. Kazakhstan's dynamically changing economic, social, educational, and cultural environment provides incredible opportunities for significant and original research.

Compensation

Rank and salary are competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Compensation after-tax compares favorably with net salaries in western countries. Combined with a low cost of living, the salary becomes even more competitive in real terms.

Limited on-campus housing is available to rent. In addition to salary, a benefits package includes basic healthcare, reduced tuition rates for KIMEP courses, and a subsidy for relocation allowance. Summer paid teaching is typically available. The salary will be subject to a deduction of 10% income tax.
