Are you an ambitious researcher looking for your next challenge? Do you have a background in economics, econometrics, statistics, epidemiology or health data science? Are you interested in working with observational data to address policy-relevant research questions?

We are looking to appoint a Grade 7 (Research Fellow) in Health Economics and Health Data Science to contribute to recently funded research projects in the Academic Unit of Health Economics (AUHE), Leeds Institute of Health Sciences. The post is available immediately and is for four years in the first instance. However, AUHE has an excellent track record in securing the funding required to extend research post contracts.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a thriving team of researchers in one of the UK’s leading research-intensive universities.  You will be part of a large team which has a wide portfolio of funded research projects involving a broad range of statistical, econometric and health economic evaluation methods.  We are committed to supporting and developing our team members, for example through attendance at conferences and access to training in contemporary statistical, econometric and health economic evaluation methods.  We will also support you to further develop your own areas of expertise and interests.

You will predominantly work on a project funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) and lead by Dr Katie Spencer (Associate Professor). The project will involve using routine healthcare data to understand the costs of cancer care and elucidate the relationships between spending inequalities and the deprivation gap in cancer survival. This project is of significant policy interest and includes stakeholder engagement with colleagues from across the healthcare sector that will seek to embed the research outputs in policy. Stakeholders range from patients and the public, through local hospital leaders, Integrated Care Board representatives up to the Department of Health and Social Care. It will be carried out in partnership with the National Disease Registration Service (NDRS) and with extensive national academic collaborations. The work will involve linking multiple routine cancer datasets and applying econometric approaches to better understand inequalities from both clinical and economic perspectives. Involvement in stakeholder engagement can be tailored to your personal development aims.
