Clinical Research Fellow

Salary: Full time starting salary is normally in the range £38,619 to £65,955

Contract Type: Fixed Term contract up to August 2028

Role Summary

This role is for an enthusiastic and talented clinician with an interest in neuroscience research. 

The successful candidate will:

• Develop (with support) and deliver a research programme to meet the deliverables of the mTBI Predict study and to support our future NHS/academic research workforce
• Analyse and interpret research findings and results 
• Contribute to academic outputs such as papers, conference abstracts and presentations
• Contribute to public understanding of Neuroscience, especially with regard to the role of mild traumatic brain injury

Main Duties

The responsibilities may include some but not all of the responsibilities outlined below.

• Recruit to and deliver clinical visits in the mTBI Predict study
• Develop research objectives and proposals for own research with in the mTBI Predict study, with assistance of the supervisory team led by Professor Sinclair
• Analyse and interpret data
• Apply knowledge in a way which develops new intellectual understanding
• Disseminate research findings for publication, research seminars etc 
• Contribute to developing new models, techniques and methods 
• Undertake management/administration arising from research
• Contribute to Departmental/School research-related activities and research-related administration
• Contribute to enterprise, business development and/or public engagement activities under supervision of their supervisory team
• Collect research data; this may be through a variety of research methods, such as scientific experimentation, literature reviews, and health data analysis
• Present research outputs, including drafting academic publications or parts thereof, for example at seminars and as posters 
• Deal with problems that may affect the achievement of research objectives and deadlines
• Promote equality and diversity, acting as a role model and fostering an inclusive working culture.

Person Specification

• Medical degree (MBChB/MBBS)
• Junior doctor grade (CT1-2/IMT1-3/ST1-6) with interest in neurology
• Ability to communicate complex information clearly to peers, supervisors and members of the public/patients
• An interest in developing a clinical academic career
• Research experience is preferable but not essential; relevant training will be available 
• Contribute to the planning and organising of the research programme against timelines and deliverables
• Contribute to other research being undertaken with in the Translational Brain Science research group within a ‘team-science’ approach 
• Support students, peers and senior staff in an active learning environment
• Knowledge of the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010, and how to actively ensure that those with protected characteristics are treated equally and fairly.
