Background

We are seeking to appoint a new senior member of staff to join the College of Medicine & Health at an exciting time when we are completing a significant review of our existing MBChB Medicine & Surgery curriculum and programme structure. The new appointee will join a well-established team of academics to contribute to the development of the programme, with a particular focus on leading on the development and implementation of innovative learning materials and formative assessments to support the revised programme.

The role is designed for an experienced educator with an established track record in curriculum and assessment design and innovation and the ability to lead task and finish groups to completion to deliver these essential elements of the programme. Additionally, they will contribute to teaching and assessment across the programme and take a senior leadership role, as part of the management team for the programme. They will facilitate sharing of best practice and expertise within the programme and will play an important role in implementing the changes we are making to the MBChB, as well as contributing to the developing healthcare education research group within the College.

Role Summary

You will contribute at a senior level on a sustained basis to the whole range of teaching leadership and administration across MBChB. We are particularly looking for someone with a focus on developing and enhancing formative assessment across the programme and working as part of the team to ensure students who need additional support are identified early in their time with us. In addition, you will be expected to contribute to academic citizenship, likely to be demonstrated through generous, mutually respectful and supportive working relationships with all staff and students.

Teaching is likely to include: (a) development and leadership of aspects of the MBChB programme or equivalent; and (b) enhancement of the student experience that are of manifest benefit to the College and the University. It is expected that you will demonstrate a significant contribution to the advancement of teaching (policy, practice, standards) of the subject, provide leadership in teaching and learning that is innovative to the subject area or institution, with a significant contribution to the debate nationally about teaching. 

Person Specification

  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Demonstrated excellence in Learning and Teaching, and Management and Administration. 
  • It would be desirable for the post holder to have a postgraduate qualification in Education e.g. PGCert or higher qualification.
  • Normally, a higher Degree relevant to the discipline area (usually PhD) or equivalent qualifications.
  • Fellowship (or higher) of Advance HE.
