University of Cambridge - Human Resources Division

Location: Cambridge
Salary: £41,421 to £55,295 per annum
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 23rd December 2024
Closes: 26th January 2025
Job Ref: AH44564

The University of Cambridge is one of the largest and most prestigious universities in the world, with more than 13,500 employees. We are committed to providing a positive working, learning and social environment, with an inclusive culture that promotes equity and values diversity, in which everyone can thrive and do their best work. Our people are our greatest asset, and it is critical to our continued success that we create the right conditions for our people to thrive at Cambridge.

The Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (ED&I) Consultant will join the University's specialist ED&I team, which sits in the Human Resources Division. The team is responsible for designing and delivering an ambitious programme of institutional and cultural change at the University. The team is forward-looking and committed to creating effective equality solutions.

The Consultant will work with the Head of ED&I and the University's leadership, alongside academic and other professional services colleagues, to deliver the University's ED&I strategy using a change and project management approach to embed ED&I within institutions.

The Role:

As an ED&I Consultant, you will play a pivotal role in advancing the University's strategic objectives. Your responsibilities include providing strategic advice, leading specific tasks and projects, and taking a leadership role in designated protected characteristics or policy areas. You will also serve as the main ED&I adviser for several allocated Schools or Non-School Institutions.

You will be instrumental in driving the University's ED&I agenda by supporting the implementation of a comprehensive framework designed to promote inclusive staff recruitment, representation, and overall experience. Additionally, as an ED&I Consultant, you will contribute strategically to ensure statutory compliance, oversee equalities monitoring and reporting, and conduct Equality Impact Assessments.

You will also act as a key facilitator for various committees and working groups, and strategically lead the University's participation in national equality charters or benchmarking within your specific ED&I specialist area.

About you:

In order to succeed in this role, you will have current and comprehensive knowledge of the sector, proficiency in best practices, knowledge of relevant legislation i.e. Equality Act 2010, and a track record of translating equality initiatives and strategy into tangible results. An essential attribute is the ability to understand sensitivities related to the ED&I agenda and devise innovative strategies to enhance engagement. Experience working on disability-related matters would be beneficial, though not an essential requirement.

The University of Cambridge is committed to supporting our staff to thrive both professionally and personally. We aim to support a good work/life balance, whilst retaining the positive aspects of our unique in-person environment and culture. Elements of this role are suitable for hybrid working, where staff can split their time between in-person collaboration and remote working. The frequency of the remote elements of the role can be discussed with the recruiting manager.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic disclosure (criminal records check) and a security check.

We welcome applications from individuals who wish to be considered for part-time working or other flexible working arrangements.

The University of Cambridge is dedicated to tackling underrepresentation. We encourage applications from women, who are underrepresented in senior roles, and from individuals who identify as Black, where the gap is greatest.
