The Visual Arts Department at Leeds City College are recruiting for a teacher to join our team specifically to cover maternity leave. We are leading the way across the West Yorkshire region by offering a wide provision of industry led courses, including BTEC and Access to HE which specifically prepare the next generation of creatives for University and/or working in the industry.
We are a team of both industry and specialist academic teachers with first class pastoral support staff who ensure that each of our students is provided with an exceptional experience with outcomes to match.
We are looking for a fully qualified and highly experienced teacher to come and join our academic team in the delivery of the BTEC Art & Design Practice (Fashion & Textiles) course.
Motivate and inspire students to achieve targets and develop their skills to enable progression.
Adapt curriculum delivery methods to maximise their effectiveness, including through the use of technology.
Plan, prepare and develop effective schemes of work, lesson plans, teaching and learning resources including the development of on-line learning resources for identified modules.
Deliver inspiring sessions across the curriculum using a wide range of teaching methods for identified modules.
Assess student work, provide constructive and timely feedback to motivate and inspire the learner to improve and record learners’ progress for identified modules.
Create SMART targets, record and monitor progress against them. Implement positive interventions where needed, for students undertaking identified modules.
Apply theoretical understanding of effective practice in teaching, learning and assessment drawing on research and other evidence.
Implement evidence-based strategies to ensure high levels of retention, achievement, success and attendance for identified cohorts.
Develop and strengthen relationships with learners and provide support to ensure successful outcomes.
Maintain and actively engage in quality and professional standards.
Reflect on and maintain knowledge of educational/professional research to develop evidence-based practice.
Holds a L5 Teaching Qualification (e.g. Cert Ed, PGCE).
English and Maths at Level 2 or above.
Highly experienced in practical teaching and assessment.
Holds Assessor/IV Award.
Confidence in a range of textiles skills and processes.
Skilled in sewing machine and overlocker use and maintenance.
Understanding and experience of pattern cutting.
Experience of setting appropriate SMART targets to ensure progression of learners.
Knowledge of current teaching practices and experience of utilising a range of teaching practices to enhance learner journey and progression.
Experience of undertaking internal verification and moderation activities.
Ability to inspire and motivate learners to achieve their optimum.
Ability to be adaptable and flexible towards the requirements of different learner needs.
Ability to provide productive insight into the review process and development of identified courses.
