About the role

We have an opening for a research fellow or senior research fellow to work with the Transformative Innovation Policy Consortium at the university of Sussex with the Panamanian Science and Technology agency, (SENACYT) for a part time 6-month period on Futures Scenario planning beginning February 2025. The post holder will be expected to prepare primary material, be able to design a high-level workshop in Panama on Futures associated with sustainable transitions. Sensitivity to cross-country differences in policy, including specific cultural and institutional contexts is crucial. Background and experience on Futures methods essential, as well as knowledge of the literature of transformative innovation and transformative innovation policy.

The role specific tasks will include

  • Design of materials and exercise for a “Future Workshop” on transitions in Panama in March-April-May 2025 including slide deck, organisation of the workshop and briefing the delivery team.
  • Lead in the delivery a face-to-face “Futures Workshop” on transitions in Panama in March-April-May 2025 together with the TIPC team. 
  • Prior preparation for the workshop including some reading on Panama science and technology ecosystem and briefing the delivery team.
  • Design of “Futures workshop” as a policy instrument for other uses in Miro (or other visual aid) post-workshop for the TIPC resource lab and/or Latin American Hub of TIPC.

About you

The following essential criteria are expected:

Educated to doctoral level, or other equivalent qualification, or appropriate level of experience, as appropriate to the discipline (see role-specific criteria below) and there will be evidence of engagement in high-quality research activity.

Excellent presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, colleagues and external audiences.

Excellent organisational and administrative skills.

Knowledge of theories and evidence related to sustainability transition theory and empirics.

Background and experience in Futures Methodology associated to sustainable transitions 

Experience in organising Futures workshops and familiarity with recollecting relevant data and information and report preparation

Ability to work collaboratively in designing, implementing, and writing up qualitative research.
