The role
We seek to appoint new academics at the level of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Biological Sciences. We are interested in applicants who we can support to build internationally competitive research programmes in areas linked to our strategic research priorities, ‘Understanding the evolution of life’, ‘Responding to anthropogenic change’, ‘Reversing the biodiversity crisis’ and ‘Transforming sustainable food production’. Successful applicants will complement the long-standing research strengths of the School and add value to our overall research portfolio.
The successful applicants would contribute broadly our teaching in the biological sciences. We are committed to equality of access and outcome, celebrating diversity, and providing an inclusive learning and work environment for staff and students. Through their research and teaching activities, the successful applicants would contribute to our commitment to enhance the diversity of backgrounds and cultures represented in our School, including the diversity of role models we provide for our students.
What will you be doing?
The newly appointed academics will engage with teaching and research in a growing and successful department; currently one of the leading Schools of Biological Sciences in the UK. As the role progresses, responsibilities will expand wider within the University. The appointments will further complement, as appropriate to the candidate’s field, University Research Institutes for Data Science (Jean Golding Institute) and Global Change (Cabot Institute), the Bristol Centre for Agricultural Innovation, the Wolfson Bioimaging Facility and the Advanced Computing Research Centre. There would be opportunities to create new research opportunities within the Faculty of Life Sciences, more widely across the University, and with external industrial partners.
You should apply if
You will be a researcher with a track record commensurate with your experience. You will have a research portfolio evidencing your academic skills, research experience and/or innovative approaches. You will have a strong commitment and aptitude for teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Your research will align with and add value to strategic priorities outlined in our School Research Strategy.
