Applications are invited for a researcher position in the laboratory of Dr Catherine Lindon at the Department of Pharmacology, University of Cambridge. The successful candidate will join a team investigating the mode of action of novel tools for Targeted Protein Degradation (TPD). Small molecule PROTACs harnessing the cellular ubiquitination machinery to destroy targets of clinical importance are at the forefront of a revolution in therapeutic strategies, yet many parameters of the relevant ubiquitination pathways are not well understood.
This study is a great opportunity to gain experience in a novel and rapidly expanding field and to contribute to important and timely research questions about how PROTACs find and ubiquitinate their targets, and what cellular factors modify the success of TPD strategies. This knowledge will feed into therapeutic strategies of the future.
Suitably experienced candidates with an MRes in a relevant science subject area will be considered for appointment on the Research Assistant scale. Candidates that have completed their PhD within the past 5 years are also encouraged to apply and will be considered for appointment to Research Associate scale. All candidates should be careful and methodical workers, able to work independently or as part of a team. They should be self-motivated and able to organise, perform and analyse experiments with minimal instruction.
Key duties/responsibilities will include: conducting the research project alongside other team members, updating knowledge and understanding in the research field, managing resources and activities in the lab, contributing to supervision of junior researchers in the lab.
The funds to begin in this post are available from 1st March 2025.
Successful candidates will be appointed as Research Assistant at Grade 5 (£27,929 - £32,348) or Research Associate at Grade 7 (£34,308 - £42,155).
Fixed-term: Funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance, with the possibility of extension.
The online application is to include your personal details, names and addresses of referees, as well as your CV, research publications list and cover letter.
Interviews will take place in late January.
