About the role

The University of Bath (UoB) is embarking on the next stage of its digital and data transformation journey.

A key part of this is the creation of a Data and Insights Project. The University will develop capabilities across the organisation to become a data-driven organisation at all levels and view data as an institutional asset. This data will provide insights and actionable recommendations to support decision making. By unlocking the value in our data, we will maximise student and staff experience by tailoring our services.

The digital transformation journey is also transforming the way in data & technology services are delivered. The Digital, Data & Technology Department (DDaT) is a passionate community of technical experts who provide digital, data and technology services that are accessible, relevant, and secure. We are motivated by helping people solve problems, be more effective in what they do today and innovating to raise the bar of what can be achieved in future.

Significant change in technology and service provision is anticipated and it is vital to have effective, proactive engagement with other departments and faculties. This will address a key improvement required within the Evolution project to develop and maintain strong partnerships with key stakeholders to deliver greater efficiency, coherence, cooperation and coordination.

The Enterprise Data Architect role sits within the Data & Technology pillar within DDaT. You will work closely with the Chief Data & Technology Officer (CDTO) and stakeholders from around the business on the creation and measurement of the university’s data strategy. You will provide data architecture leadership, setting the data architecture standards and ways of working for the data community.

There is a market supplement of up to £8,000 available at our discretion, based on skills and experience.

About you

You will be a subject matter expert and trusted partner with excellent communication skills working professionally and collaboratively with colleagues, business stakeholders, business analysts and project managers, to ensure that solutions are aligned with the reference architecture to deliver maximum value to the business.

You will lead the architecture of the university’s Enterprise Data Hub, to act as a single source of quality assured data to underpin insight and data-driven services as well as leading and managing a team of circa. 8 people plus contractors.

Capable of operating across a wide-ranging technology stack including SaaS, PaaS, Commercial off the Shelf as well as in-house custom developed solutions, have the knowledge and skills necessary to take functional and non-functional requirements, provide expert architectural direction to engineering teams based on these requirements and evaluate engineering designs against architectural standards.
