Available from 1st October 2025

The School of Computing & Communications invites applications for full-time PhD studentships starting on 1st October 2025. Project proposals are sought in the following areas:

  • Interaction design
  • Artificial Intelligence and Natural Language Processing
  • Next generation multimedia and networking technologies
  • Software engineering and design
  • Critical information studies
  • Technology and education

You are strongly advised to identify a potential project and supervisor before submitting a formal application.

The studentships are internally funded, and open to both home and international students. These studentships are for three years and cover tuition fees, a stipend (£19,237 per annum) and an annual research allowance. These studentships are awarded competitively, following a round of interviews which we expect to be held in February 2025. 

The successful candidates will be based at The Open University’s campus in Milton Keynes, which combines a friendly and flexible working environment with exceptional research and computing facilities.
