Working with a small team of experts on data compilation, intelligence gathering and analysis on global and UK minerals markets, this is an exciting opportunity to take on a key role in the UK Critical Minerals Intelligence Centre (CMIC).
Based within the BGS Decarbonisation and Resource Management (DRM) challenge area, the CMIC supports the UK in securing the adequate and timely supply of the minerals and metals it requires to ensure the success of the net zero transition, mitigate risks to national security, deliver economic prosperity and create opportunities for UK businesses in critical mineral supply chains domestically and internationally.
This role is directly involved in providing decision makers in government, industry and civil society with independent, robust, up-to-date, and future-orientated market analysis and intelligence to manage the dynamic risks associated with the supply and demand of critical minerals.
The role also contributes to our broader analysis of the life cycle and value chains of a wider range of mineral and metal commodities, including monitoring stocks and flows, analysis of supply and demand relationships, and assessment of the security of supply of all mineral raw materials for the UK economy. This may include contributing to our long-running World Mineral Statistics project and to other research programmes both in the UK and overseas.
We are looking for someone with familiarity with minerals markets, collection of associated data and analysis of their dynamics and complexities. Knowledge of the concepts of stocks and flows of minerals and associated products would be advantageous.
The successful applicant will also contribute to the development of new research ideas and funding opportunities, establishment of partnerships with other parts of BGS, academia and industry. You will also be involved in answering enquiries related to our minerals commodity data and analysis and engage with external stakeholders.
The postholder will be expected to show initiative and manage their own time. You may manage some projects and tasks where you will be responsible for coordinating a project team, monitoring resources and ensuring delivery of relevant outputs.
The additional specific essential and desirable skills criteria for this post will be assessed at Shortlist (S) stage, interview (I) stage, or both (S&I).
How to apply
A well thought through application providing evidence and examples of how you meet the advertised essential and desirable criteria for the post will be considered far more favourably than a generic covering letter and CV.
If you experience any issues applying for this role, please contact Recruitment@ukri.org.
The closing date for receipt of applications is Monday 13 January 2025. Interviews are expected to be held in late January 2025 in Nottingham.
