Are you passionate about legal education and dedicated to the next generation of advocates? CILEX Law School are seeking an ideally dynamic and passionate individual to take on the role of Advocacy Programme Lead. Working with the Head of Programme Innovation, you’ll switch the courtroom for a classroom, helping to deliver, manage, and organise the CLS Advocacy course. In this multifaceted position, you will not only instruct and assess students, but also provide vital pastoral support, ensuring an inclusive learning environment.

The role:

  • Lead on the Advocacy courses, delivered by CLS
  • Undertake an instructional role on the advocacy course, including tutoring students, marking written work and assessments, and providing feedback to students
  • Provide pastoral support to students as required 
  • Assist the Head of Programme Innovation with the design, development and review of any content and assessment materials, as necessary.
  • In collaboration with the Quality Assurance Manager, review, test and quality assure course content
  • Research, devise, evaluate and write training and assessment materials for deployment on the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) and for use in classroom-based learning
  • Comply with quality assurance systems internally/externally
  • Keep abreast of developments in the law and relevant educational trends to ensure that CLS courses and training materials are at the forefront of legal education
  • Liaise with a wide range of colleagues, external stakeholders and organisations 
  • Assist with Advocacy Course admissions, marketing and CLS activities as necessary 
  • In collaboration with administrative staff, organise courses and the related materials 
  • The provision of excellent, personalised support to students, including through office hours
  • Any other duties as required, in line with the grade and nature of the role
  • Promote our ED&I agenda, and facilitate a safeguarding and wellbeing culture throughout interactions with both staff and learners

What we're looking for:

Essential:

  •  Professional Legal Qualification
  •  Legal practice experience
  •  Previous experience of courtroom advocacy
  •  Teaching qualification or HEA recognition

Desirable:

  •  Master's degree or LLM

Skills and attributes:

  • Ability to develop and deliver excellent advocacy provision in the required areas of law
  • Ability to support students in advocacy and related training
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Strong communication skills including confident presenting
  • Ability to work independently
  • Attention to detail and ability to analyse and synthesise complex information
  • Creative problem solver
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrable ability to forge good working relationships with a variety of stakeholders
  • Self-motivated and able to work autonomously
  • Passionate about helping students succeed, with a strong desire to improve the learner experience
  • Exceptional communication skills and enthusiasm for teaching students
  • Ability to work with initiative and the confidence to act decisively within agreed limits
  • A willingness to work flexibly when required
  • Ability to work at some weekends and travel as required
