About the role

This is an opportunity to lead a high-profile project to develop new institutional capacity for high quality inter-disciplinary applied mental health research, directly beneficial for local communities and the health care system. The project is funded through Mental Health Leaders Award (National Institute for Health and Care Research).

Leading strategic expansion into focused digital, psychological, epidemiological and health economic research related to asset based mental health interventions. Forming a team to allow deeper learning to take place with greater depth, leading to more impactful research.

The long-term vision is to establish a Centre of Excellence for mental health asset-based community interventions, serving as a hub for pioneering mental health interventions, providing essential support to tackle complex mental health challenges in the North West and beyond.

The goal is to develop sustainable, community-centred solutions that can be replaced and scaled, significantly improving mental health outcomes. By strengthening research, fostering community involvement, and forming robust framework for better mental health care and support.

Main duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Responsibility for the effective management of the NIHR Mental Health Leadership Award, awarded to EHU, focusing on children and young people
  • Sustaining a leading research programme, including, making decisions which projects to pursue, research funding applications developing and submitting competitive applications for external funding, managing the writing up and dissemination of own research
  • Supporting development of dynamic sustainable mental health research environment within the department, supporting highest levels of engagement with research, to provide an attractive environment for external partners.

About you

As Senior Mental Health Research Leader, you will have:

  • PhD or equivalent in relevant discipline
  • Credible professional standing within the academic community, evidenced by peer review research outputs, grants
  • Ability to provide research leadership within the faculty and at University level
  • Experience of undertaking research leadership roles
  • Effective record of successful supervision of research fellows/assistants and students to doctoral level
  • Evidence of engagement with wider academic community, such as committee/editorial board membership.

Providing the candidate can demonstrate some/all of the following and the recruiting panel are satisfied, consideration will be given to make a professorial appointment (with appropriate adjustments to the role).

  • A track record of externally recognised research excellence
  • Externally recognised record of sustained innovation and excellence in teaching including contribution to the advancement of learning, development of the subject and pioneering work in course development
  • A sustained record of enterprise, successful commercialisation of high-quality research and IP leading to patents, spin out companies or body of work which influences policy decisions
  • External national and international recognition.

It is important to note the successful applicant will require to undertake an enhanced disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service this will form part of the conditions of offer of employment.
