About the Faculty and Department
The Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) is a School of King's College London and the largest academic community in Europe devoted to the study and prevention of mental illness and brain disease. The IoPPN pioneers research into new and improved ways of understanding and treating mental ill health (http://www.kcl.ac.uk/ioppn/). The research role is based in the Psychology Department, one of the world’s largest academic groupings of clinical and health psychologists. It is one of four departments in the School of Mental Health and Psychological Sciences. (https://www.kcl.ac.uk/psychology).
About The Role
This is an exciting opportunity for a post-doctoral researcher passionate about Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) in research to make a difference in the National institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) for Mental Health. Our NIHR Maudsley BRC believes in putting the service user voice at the heart of research, and generating knowledge that will make a difference to the lives of people affected by mental distress. Within the PPIE theme, we put this into practice by supporting service user involvement activities and conducting research that matters to service users.
The Research Coordinator will play a key role in supporting service user involvement activities in our theme. This includes supporting our Research Assistants, our operations, and our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion lead. The postholder will also have opportunities to carry out their own research on topics that are important to service users and relevant to our theme. This could include a wide range of topics, from digital mental health to medication side effects. The postholder will be supported by the theme Co-Leads. This will support you to move towards developing and leading an independent programme of research in your chosen specialism.
This post is suitable for a highly organised and motivated post-doctoral researcher. Applicants should have a strong track record in designing appropriate quantitative and qualitative research studies, and evidence of staff and project management skills. Applicants should also be skilled in liaising and communicating with a wide range of people and be adept in updating on progress and outcomes in a range of formats.
Applicants from racialised groups, and those with lived experience of mental distress or using mental health services, are strongly encouraged to apply.
This is a full time (35 Hours per week), and you will be offered an a fixed term contract until 31st March 2027.
