We invite applications for Post-Doctoral Research Associate positions to join the Statistical Foundations for Detecting Anomalous Structure in Stream Settings (DASS) Programme. DASS will consider the foundational statistical challenges of identifying anomalous structure in streams within constrained environments, handling the realities of contemporary data streams, and identifying and tracking dependence across streams.
This £4M programme is funded by EPSRC and brings together research groups from the Universities of Lancaster, Bristol, Warwick and the London School of Economics together with a committed group of industrial and public sector partners.
Interaction between the research groups at the universities will be strongly encouraged and resourced; our philosophy is to tackle the methodological, theoretical and computational aspects of these statistical problems together.
These 2 year positions are available at each of the partner universities. You should have, or be close to completing, a PhD in Statistics or a closely related discipline. Throughout, you should have demonstrated an ability to develop new statistical methods or theory in a relevant area, including but not limited to: anomaly detection; changepoint analysis; non-stationary time series analysis, high dimensional statistics, statistical-computational tradeoffs, scalable statistical methods. You will also have shown a demonstrable ability to produce academic writing of the highest publishable quality.
For the four advertised posts, you will need only apply once regardless of whether you wish to be considered for one or all four positions. Unless explicitly stated, we will assume that you are happy to be considered for all the positions. Alternatively, please state clearly in your cover letter which positions you wish to be considered for, and explain how your research background is relevant for the specific positions and research themes you are interested in. In addition, we also strongly encourage you to consider applying to the separately advertised LSE post associated with the DASS programme, details of which will be available here.
These are full-time positions, though we will consider applicants requesting part-time or other flexible working arrangements. We welcome applications from people in all diversity groups.
Candidates considering making an application are strongly encouraged to contact Idris Eckley (i.eckley@lancaster.ac.uk), Haeran Cho (haeran.cho@bristol.ac.uk), Paul Fearnhead (p.fearnhead@lancaster.ac.uk), Yi Yu (yi.yu.2@warwick.ac.uk) to discuss the programme in greater detail.
Interview arrangements: Interviews to be held 10th /11th February 2025
Positions available: 1st April 2025, or as soon as possible thereafter
Please note: unless specified otherwise in the advert, all advertised roles are UK based.
