Essential Requirements

Candidates applying for this role must have professional experience in teaching, supervision, and assessment at higher education (university) level. A master’s or PhD qualification in a discipline relevant to education is essential. Additionally, candidates should be actively engaged in participatory research and have experience of using one of/or both qualitative and quantitative research approaches. Please note that applications that do not meet the essential criteria will not be considered. 

Role Overview

The Online Dissertation Supervisor is a self-employed contractor position responsible for providing one-to-one supervision to students studying CEG Digital’s online MA Education course. This postgraduate level 7 course is delivered in partnership with the University of Hull as part of the Hull Online portfolio. 

Students are entitled to around 6 hours of supervision over a six-month period. The supervisor will meet online with students undertaking their final major project to provide academic guidance and constructive feedback to help students develop their ideas and successfully complete their project. This supervision time will be carried out at times suitable for, and determined by the supervisor. It is also expected that supervisors will ensure students maintain a supervisory log of their progress. 

The supervisor will also first mark a research poster, and the final submitted project of each student they supervise and for each student supervised, the supervisor will second mark the poster and dissertation of another student allocated randomly. Induction, supervision and marking are all included in the fee for services. Supervisors will also be expected to support their students with applying for ethics research approval and will need to review paperwork relating to this. 

There is no minimum or maximum requirement to the number of students you can supervise at any one time, but work is dependent on student numbers. Successful candidates will also be required to adhere to deadlines and academic regulations set by the partner university.

Specifically, the program is built around students’ work so that learning is directly informed by and impacts upon their occupation.
