UWE Bristol’s School of Applied Sciences runs a number of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the conservation and environmental sciences including BSc (Hons) Wildlife Ecology and Conservation Science, BSc (Hons) Environmental Science, MSc Applied Wildlife Conservation, MRes Applied Sciences and the new MSc Conservation Leadership.
You will support students on our conservation and environmental science programmes, by contributing to teaching and learning, and supervising undergraduate and postgraduate research projects across the discipline. There may be an opportunity to coordinate the implementation of the School’s conservation science/environmental science field trip activities, depending on experience. Occasionally, our lecturers will also be required to support teaching teams in other programmes within the School (e.g. Biological Sciences). It is also expected that you’ll contribute to research within the School, including within one of its research centres, such as the Centre for Sustainable Agri-Food and Environment (SAFE).
This is a part-time permanent post offered as a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer role, depending on experience. It’s our preference that candidates can deliver teaching in ecology and environmental science. - Experience and knowledge of ecological field skills is required. Botanical identification/terrestrial habitat survey skills would be an advantage, as would wildlife handling licences or ecological drone experience.
You’ll have a science-based PhD relevant to conservation science or, if from a professional practice background, a Master’s qualification together with significant professional practice experience. You have a background and broad knowledge across conservation science who can deliver teaching on our conservation courses, as well as leading field trips. You’ll also have experience of teaching and assessment at an HEI and can demonstrate experience of devising and delivering teaching. Experience of leadership at a module/programme level would be advantageous.
We are looking for someone who aligns to our UWE Bristol values. You can demonstrate your experience of leading and motivating groups of people, collegiate working and their organisational skills. You can further demonstrate how you keep abreast of latest developments in this subject area and external best practice benchmarks.
You will be supported in this role by an experienced senior lecturer as a mentor and expected to undertake the PG Certificate in Learning and Teaching in HE, unless you have already obtained it. The School provides staff development funds to support personal and subject related training for academic staff.
This post is based at our lively Frenchay campus.
We offer a wide range of employee benefits.
We particularly encourage applications from global majority candidates as we are currently under-represented in this area of the organisation, however all appointments are made strictly on individual merit.
As a Disability Confident employer, we welcome applications from those who identify as having a disability.
To discuss the role, please contact Subject Lead Dr Andy Ridgway: Andy.ridgway@uwe.ac.uk or Head of School Dr Lyn Newton: Lyn.newton@uwe.ac.uk. There may be a delay in responding to enquiries over this period due to annual leave and the University Christmas closure.
This is a permanent post part-time working on a 0.6 FTE contract.
We are unable to provide sponsorship for this role under the Home Office Skilled Worker visa route.
You may also wish to explore other visa options which will allow you to work in the UK.
UWE Bristol does not cover any visa or health surcharge costs.
