The Nuffield Politics Research Centre seeks to appoint a Postdoctoral Researcher to support a programme of collaborative research into economic insecurity – its determinants and outcomes – and economic voting in Great Britain, using a large new panel survey dataset, as part of a funded programme of research with the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and the Nuffield Politics Research Centre at Nuffield College in the University of Oxford.
Together with the existing research team, the person appointed will be expected to carry out high-quality advanced statistical analysis of panel survey data, as well as theory-building, literature synthesis, data visualisation, and descriptive analysis. They will disseminate research findings to academic audiences by co-authoring high-impact original academic research papers and presenting research findings in conferences and seminars, as well as supporting a programme of engagement with non-academic audiences, including co-writing of reports for public dissemination.
Applicants will hold or be close to completing, a PhD/DPhil in a relevant field (e.g. political science), and will have interests in economic insecurity, economic voting, and British politics. They will have a commitment to the highest quality research methods, and proven expertise in quantitative research methods, together with experience of using advanced statistical modelling in analyses of panel survey or similar data. The successful candidate will have excellent oral and written communication skills, with an emerging (national or international) publication record in peer-reviewed journals and leading publishers commensurate with their career stage, and the ability to summarise and communicate research to non-academic as well as academic audiences.
The post is full time, 35 hours per week, however, applications to hold the post on a part-time basis would also be considered. This is a fixed-term contract for three years. Candidates who have not yet completed their doctorate at the time of application should note that it may be necessary for them to have submitted their doctoral dissertation for examination before they can take up the post. There will be an initial probationary period of six months. The salary will be £40,528 per annum (pro rata for part-time hours).
