Our Directorate of Education and Training has ambitious goals for increasing student numbers, diversifying its portfolio and extending its reach. To achieve these goals, it is essential that we provide effective professional support services for our students and staff.

A vacancy has now arisen for a Returns, Planning & Insight Manager, to lead the work of the Division in delivering insight in our education and training activities, and to lead for the Division and Trust in preparing statutory student returns via our validating partner institution.

Main duties of the job

  • Assist with the delivery of regulatory reporting to our University Partners/ Office for Students (OfS), such as HESA and HESES, undertaking data cleansing, data queries and data production.
  • To assist with the requirements, management and build of a suite of validation and exception reports, using SQL and Power BI, which will ensure that data quality is optimal at key points during the academic year.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of forthcoming changes in statutory reporting, attending and participating in sector events as required. The post holder will assist how best to implement statutory reporting requirements as they change.
  • Working with the Head of Academic Registry, Statutory Returns, Planning and Insights Manager and the Finance Manager, communicate change requirements by developing and facilitating training and workshops.
  • A primary user of student data systems at the Trust to assist with the development and delivery of BI dashboards for management teams within the Division and across the Trust that will drive forward strategic change, in line with KPI targets and other objectives.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Degree or equivalent experience, ideally in a numerate subject
  • Evidence of further professional development, in an area relevant to the role

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Knowledge and experience of using effective dashboard design for business intelligence practice in conjunction with a data warehouse
  • Experience of databases, preferably including SITS

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of student records and databases, preferably including SITS
  • Experience of working in a relevant role at a UK Higher Education institution

Skills

Essential criteria

  • Advanced analysis skills on Microsoft Excel.
  • Advanced SQL skills

Desirable criteria

  • Power BI design and development
  • Project Management

Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Knowledge of using analytics platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, SQL, etc.
  • Knowledge of producing Statutory Returns

Desirable criteria

  • Knowledge of developing Power BI Reports
