Assistant Professorship (Tenure-Track)

Central European University – Department of Public Policy

Starting Date: 1 August 2025

The Department of Public Policy at Central European University (CEU) invites applications for a full-time Tenure-Track Assistant Professorship. Candidates are expected to demonstrate an excellent command of quantitative methods, in particular text mining, natural language processing, machine learning (or related methods), and apply these methods to policy-relevant topics related to: 

  • Politics of public policy making; 
  • Media or interest groups influence, favoritism; 
  • Social cohesion, institutions and social policy; or
  • Public policy and artificial intelligence. 

Applicants focusing on other research topics but with an exceptional publication record or research agenda will also be considered. Scholars who apply a diverse set of complementary empirical approaches (including qualitative methods), or have extensive experience in collaborative projects with qualitative researchers are encouraged to apply. 

The Department of Public Policy (DPP) is an interdisciplinary department with a collegial work environment that fosters collaboration across academic backgrounds and research avenues. Our faculty primarily comes from economics, political science, or law. We offer three master's degrees: an MA in Public Policy (one year), an MA in Public Administration (two years), and an MA in International Public Affairs (two years). Additionally, DPP leads the Erasmus Mundus MAPP, a joint two-year master's degree offered in partnership with universities in the UK, Netherlands, and Spain.  

Our programs provide a strong foundation in the political, economic, and legal aspects of public policy, catering to a diverse student body. DPP faculty contribute to teaching and supervision in the Doctoral School of Political Science and CEU's undergraduate programs.

Your qualifications: 

  • Ph.D. in Public Policy, Political Science, Sociology, Law, Economics, or a related field by August 1, 2025.
  • Publications in high-quality, peer-reviewed international journals relevant to the disciplines above.
  • Teaching experience at the graduate/undergraduate level. 

What we expect: 

  • Contribute to a strong research environment by participating in international networks and pursuing third-party funding.
  • An original research agenda in one of the topics defined above.
  • A commitment to innovative, inclusive teaching taking into account the diverse cultural and educational backgrounds of our students.
  • Contribute to at least one core module of our degree programs (research methods, public policy, policy analysis, and economics for public policy) 

What CEU Offers: 

The initial contract will be for a six-year term with the possibility of promotion to Associate Professor with an indefinite term contract. We offer a yearly gross salary of  70’000  EUR. In addition to the salary, CEU offers a Resaver pension plan.
