This is an exciting opportunity to become the Educational Technologist in the School of Biological Sciences. In this role you will provide technical support and guidance to enable the delivery of technology-enabled teaching, ensuring that academics and teachers maximize the potential of such technology, and students receive the highest quality learning experience.

The role will support online education across four major Triposes (undergraduate programmes): Natural Sciences, Biological; pre-clinical education in the Medical Sciences and Veterinary Sciences; and Psychology and Behavioural Sciences. Teaching in these fields includes lectures, practical laboratory-based classes, and small-group seminars.

The role involves working collaboratively (with academics, other Educational Technologists (in Education Services and University Information Services (UIS)) Learning Designers, A/V, IT and other colleagues who support the delivery of online, blended and hybrid teaching and learning) in order to provide technical support and guidance re learning technologies to university academics and other teaching staff. The role is strongly operational and hands-on, but combined also with a training/facilitation function, to enable university teachers to become adept and self-reliant users of the available technologies and systems.

We are looking for someone with experience of Virtual Learning Environments, preferably in a higher education or further education environment. You will be confident in managing a significant volume of requests for technical help. You will be skilled in developing and delivering training and/or facilitation sessions and materials. You will have the ability to understand the distinctive features of teaching in the biological sciences, including the central role of practical laboratory-based classes, ensuring that our eLearning programmes enhance our existing teaching excellence. You will be able to form productive and collaborative links with the growing community of Teaching & Learning Community, including the Technology Enhanced Learning staff in the University, sharing knowledge, best practice and technical expertise.
