The Department of Computer Science and Technology is an academic department that encompasses computer science along with many aspects of engineering, technology, and mathematics. The Head of Finance has overall responsibility for financial strategy and operations across the Department and for managing financial matters relating to the Department's research income. This includes setting the Department's financial strategy, developing its financial plans, and making both long-range and operational financial decisions for the Department. The Head of Finance also takes responsibility for compliance with financial regulations and the performance of the Finance and Research Grant Team, raising standards, developing and delivering new training, and opening career paths. As financial systems, processes and regulations evolve in the University, the Head of Finance will play a leading and influential role at School and University levels, providing insight, advice and direction on policy and process. This successful applicant will be an accomplished finance professional, able to lead the Department's Finance and Research Grants Team to make efficiency improvements to financial procedures, whilst advising and supporting all staff, ensuring a positive working experience for their team.
The successful candidate will be highly numerate, analytical, and proficient in standard software packages, particularly Excel. You will be educated to degree level or level 7 vocational qualification, with an accounting qualification (ACMA, ACA, ACCA, CIPFA), or equivalent practical experience. Good interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as well as experience of management accounting, business modelling, presenting complex data, optimisation and data-driven decision making.
