Research Associate in Experimental Interfacial Science and Engineering

Full-time: 35 hours per week

Fixed-term: for 13 months, until February 2026

The Opportunity:

This Research Associate (RA) position will contribute to experimental research within the project “Fluid Mechanics of Wettability-Patterned Liquid Surfaces” within the Institute for Multiscale Thermofluids at the University of Edinburgh, which is funded by The Leverhulme Trust. The Research Associate in Interfacial Science and Engineering role will continue for 13 months on a full-time basis (35 hours per week), based 100% on campus. The salary for this post is £40,247-£47,874 per annum.

Your skills and attributes for success: 

• A good undergraduate degree and a PhD in Physical Sciences, Materials, Engineering or a clearly related area.
• Proven track record of research in experimental interfacial science and engineering, with a specific focus on wetting or a closely related area.
• Experience in delivering research project results; e.g., a record of peer-reviewed journal and conference papers in a relevant area.
• Demonstrable experience of construction of experimental set-ups and in developing tools or systems for data analysis.
• Specialist knowledge in wetting, capillarity and fluid mechanics.
