WHO WE ARE

We are East London Sport (ELS) at the University of East London (UEL). We encompass all of UEL’s sports and physical activity offerings, ranging from High Performance Scholarships to our Moves+ app. 

A key focus for us is ensuring students have access to physical activity for both physical and mental benefit, and through our newly launched Active Campus we aim to provide something for everyone. We also have the Sports Dock gym, to which students have free access.  A key part of this role is  marketing projects such as these that aim to help improve students, staff and the community’s health and wellbeing. 

We’re looking for a driven, enthusiastic, Student and Community Development Officer to join our team. You’ll play a key role and be responsible for delivering the ‘Sport In Your Futures’ programme while supporting the development of the student workforce and East London Sports’ impact within the local community.  

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Lead the operational delivery of the East London Sport In Your Futures programme, ensuring effective student involvement in work-based learning and community activities.   
  • Assist in the development of community projects, events, and initiatives, supporting the manager in increasing local community engagement with East London Sport.   
  • Work with the East London Sport marketing team to promote community programmes and increase awareness of work-based learning opportunities 
  • Help to coordinate all internal work-based learning opportunities within the East London Sport service and its programmes. 
  • Assist in the collection of data and research opportunities, to understand the impact of East London Sport’s community programmes on the local community and student workforce. 
  • Actively record & monitor student engagement with work-based learning across the service, using central University systems and platforms where possible. 
  • Actively engage with the University Global Sports Strategy and Vision 2028, where relevant to the scope of this role. 
  • Take a flexible approach to work, where attendance during early mornings, evenings, weekends and work at both University campus and external locations may be required. 
  • To undertake additional duties appropriate with the grade of the position as may be required by the Student Workforce and Community Engagement Manager.

ABOUT YOU

  • Experienced in the development of community projects, events and community engagement.
  • Ability to coordinate internal work-based learning opportunities within the East London Sport service and its programmes.
  • A passion for engagement and work based learning.
  • Experience in collecting data and research opportunities.
  • Excellent written English and ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Experience planning and prioritising work to meet deadlines, whilst pro-actively working with others to achieve team objectives.
  • Creative thinker and problem solver, always looks for better ways of doing things.
  • Understanding of and interest in sport, health and fitness industry.
  • Commitment to and understanding of equality and diversity issues.
