Applications are invited for a post-doctoral research associate position in the group of Prof. Dame Clare P. Grey to develop solid-state NMR, dynamic nuclear polarisation (DNP) enhanced NMR, and density functional theory methods to understand phase transformations and degradation in battery materials.
The successful candidate will use solid-state NMR to characterise bulk phases in battery materials and therefore, expertise in these field is essential. They will analyse the composition of the SEI and elucidate degradation mechanisms using DNP NMR and so experience in this area is essential. They will also make use of a variety of modelling/simulation methods to rationalise experimental results; therefore, experience with density functional theory and/or molecular dyamics simulations is essential. Familiarty with solid-state synthesis, battery assembly, and electrochemical analysis is desirable. Experience with other charactiersation techniques (e.g., XRD, SEM, IR and Raman spectrosocopy) is desirable. The projects will involve collaboration with other researchers, both international, so the demonstrated ability to work as member of a team is essential.
Applicants should have (or about to obtain) a PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, or related discipline. A strong proven track-record of publication in relevant fields is essential.
