The role
Northeastern University London invites applications for a Laboratory Manager (Teaching Laboratories and Makerspaces). The successful candidate will oversee all the operations of our newly-created, state-of-the-art Chemistry, Biology and Physics, teaching laboratories, as well as our dedicated makerspaces for Design, on the University’s London campus.
This is an exciting opportunity for an individual to take the lead in launching these state of the art teaching laboratories (n=3) and makerspaces (n=2), making sure they are fit for purpose, well-equipped, and run to the highest regulatory standards ready for teaching from September 2025.
We will have circa 1500 students using the teaching laboratories and makerspaces in our first year of operation, but this is just the start of a growing area for the University provision. It is envisaged that the majority of students will be studying at Level 4 and 5.
The successful candidate will recruit and line-manage a brand new team of technicians; and interface with relevant academics and University staff to support all matters related to teaching and student-research work in the aforementioned areas. Core duties include: (i) budget management; (ii) resource planning; (ii) procurement of laboratory equipment, including consumables and chemicals; (iii) storage management; (iii) waste management; and (iv) establishing experimental protocols and templates in accordance to health and safety regulations. Northeastern University London will run their laboratories as part of Northeastern University’s Global Network. The Laboratory Manager may be required to travel to Boston, MA, USA to ensure alignment across Northeastern University campuses. It is home to interdisciplinary undergraduate dual-degree (in UK and US) programmes and plays a major role in Northeastern University’s student mobility programmes, offering undergraduate courses in Biology, Chemistry, Healthcare, Engineering, Physics, and Design, striving to inspire and equip entering students to be outstanding scientists.
