The Opportunity:

A PhD aligned research post is available for a midwife with an interest in research.

This 3-and-a-half year post provides an excellent opportunity for a UK-registered midwife to study pain and distress during pregnancy, encompassing but not limited to the impacts of adverse pregnancy on the mother, fetus and subsequent generations, and how pregnancy is impacted by adverse maternal health. The research programme, developed in consultation with the Scottish Government and Edinburgh Napier University, is led by the Centre for Reproductive Health (CRH) at The University of Edinburgh. The post-holder will receive cross-disciplinary training aimed at equipping graduates with skills to drive future developments in improving pregnancy outcome. Following completion of the 3-year PhD research period, 0.5 years of funding is available to support approved activities that enable further career progression.

The post-holder will be based at CRH, providing exposure to diverse aspects of reproductive health, within the University of Edinburgh's Institute for Regeneration and Repair (IRR). IRR is located at the Edinburgh BioQuarter, a site shared by the Royal Infirmary Hospital and the University's Clinical Research facilities. The post-holder will be fully integrated into the broader CRH PhD programme and embedded in the IRR’s Postgraduate Training Framework. They will benefit from a broad range of training opportunities and postgraduate and research networks available across both The University of Edinburgh and Edinburgh Napier University campuses.

This post is full-time (35 hours per week); however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns. We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working. Start date flexible.

The programme provides funding to cover the candidate’s salary (UoE7 scale £40,274-£47,874), consumables/overheads and home tuition fees.
