About the Role:
We are seeking a dedicated individual with prior experience working with refugees and asylum seekers, who can provide effective support to learners aged 16-18 within our ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) department. These learners come from diverse backgrounds and have a range of needs that require tailored attention and understanding.
The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure smooth and timely communication with social workers, Personal Education Plans (PEPs), and other relevant stakeholders. Additionally, you will be tasked with setting and monitoring appropriate targets for the learners, ensuring they are aligned with their individual needs and goals.
This role is vital in helping our students overcome barriers to learning, so we are looking for someone compassionate, organized, and proactive in fostering a supportive and inclusive environment.
As a Lecturer you will play a pivotal role in the success of our students through:
Preparing and delivering ad-hoc ESOL provision to include 16-18 and adult day and evening classes for ESOL learners on Bedford campuses and/or employers’ premises and/or community sites in Bedford as relevant.
Planning, Preparing, delivering, assessing and verifying subject specialisms on a range of courses and levels
Supporting and guiding students to achieve success and realise their potential.
Managing students’ learning and provide a high quality learning experience.
Contributing pro-actively to developments in the Centre in curriculum development and innovative teaching.
Participating in marketing and promotion activities to support a range of programmes and learning opportunities.
About you:
Degree in a relevant subject - ESOL
Hold or be willing to work towards the DET (Diploma in Education & Training) or PGCE (Post-graduate Certificate in Education)
English and Maths or similar at GCSE grade A-C or equivalent.
Hold a minimum teaching qualification specific to teaching ESOL (CELTA or Trinity)
Ability to teach across ages ranges (students 16 – 18 year olds and adults)
Experience of using ILT to enhance teaching and learning
Experience of working effectively with people from diverse backgrounds
Ability to communicate effectively and confidently face to face, on the telephone and in writing
Responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and for raising any concerns
