The Studentship
The Department of Law and Criminology at Royal Holloway University of London (RHUL) offers a fully-funded studentship in Law, awarded on a competitive basis, via the Techne Doctoral Training Partnership. Techne is funded by the arts and Humanities Research Council. We welcome applicants interested in proposing that fit TECHNE’s remit to support innovative, interdisciplinary and creative approaches across the arts and humanities. The project is open to specific research focuses and may be co-developed between the student and the academic supervisor.
The Department
The multidisciplinary Department of Law and Criminology is an established centre of teaching and research excellence and is home to applied, theoretical and doctrinal research across Criminology, Forensic Psychology, Law, Social Work, and Sociology. In the latest Research Excellence Framework (REF 2021), 100% of our submission was assessed as world leading or internationally excellent for research impact.
The PhD programme
The Department of Law and Criminology has an active PhD programme with several dozen students. Our students benefit from opportunities for research methods training and we have a network of external organisations who are willing to support optional short-term placements and knowledge exchange opportunities. The Department offers a stimulating research environment in which our PhD students are warmly invited to engage with and participate in our multidisciplinary research groups and to contribute to PhD-led seminars and development activities.
