Events and Communications Coordinator (Fixed Term)

University of Cambridge - Department of Politics and International Studies

Location: Cambridge
Salary: £30,505 to £34,866 per annum
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 26th November 2024
Closes: 10th December 2024
Job Ref: UE44197

The Centre for Geopolitics invites applicants to join our busy and enthusiastic team as an Events & Communications Coordinator.

By the end of 2024, we will have held 97 events during the year, both online and in-person, ranging from small, private roundtables to two-day symposia with 150 or more attendees. Hence the postholder who will need to be resourceful and self-sufficient, will fill a critical and extremely busy role that requires a highly proactive attitude. The successful applicant will need to be happy juggling a wide range of tasks, balancing the demands of our various academics and programme leaders, and keeping a clear overview of the overlapping timelines of each event.

The postholder will be responsible for organising the events, and promoting them via our various existing communications platforms, suggesting new ones, where appropriate. The Events & Comms Coordinator reports to the Centre Coordinator, and has logistical support from a combination of Research Assistants and junior administrator(s), to whom they will be expected to allocate tasks, providing training, where necessary.

The role requires an ability to work independently, with plenty of initiative, great attention to detail, and a truly unflappable nature. For the right individual, however, it will prove a fulfilling and exciting role.

The Centre for Geopolitics is a research centre within the Department of Politics and International Studies (POLIS). The Centre's mission is to confront the major problems of world order, past, present and future. By applying historical analysis, political science and the experience of practitioners to the world's most pressing geopolitical challenges, we offer a deeper understanding of where these challenges have come from, how they may develop, and how they might be resolved.

The Centre has grown rapidly since its inception in 2015 and is continuing to grow. We are based in Fitzwilliam House on Trumpington Street (directly opposite the Fitzwilliam Museum), and the advertised role is primarily office-based, although occasional remote working can be agreed, as appropriate.

The working pattern is Monday to Friday, between 9am and 5pm throughout the year.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 30 September 2026 in the first instance.
