About this role
We are seeking a Senior Lecturer, Programme Leader (1.0 FTE permanent) to cover key responsibilities of programme leadership and development for UWE Bristol’s award-winning BA(Hons) Illustration programme. The programme is at an exciting point in its development sitting within the newly formed Design Communication cluster. The programme leader will help build on the current success of the programme and drive new developments with the other programmes within the cluster.
The main purpose of the role is to lead the day-to-day delivery and organisation of the BA(Hons) Illustration programme, ensuring high academic standards and quality of learning experience.
The programme leader has a visible leadership role to those involved in the Illustration programme delivery and within the School of Arts, leading key activities that enhance the student experience and driving a strong performance against measures such as student recruitment, retention and achievement. The successful candidate will offer a contemporary outlook on the changing subject to complement and extend our existing team, and to contribute to the high-quality teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate provision.
About you
You may have a broad range of experience in teaching with leadership of modules and/or programmes, research, and professional practice, active networks and strong contacts with local and national agencies and demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills enabling the development of effective working relationships with students, staff, and external partners (industry and educational; regional/national/international). You will have a strong grounding in the fundamentals of design communication practices and will also be conceptually strong in theory relating to the discipline. The candidate will be able to rationalise these elements to define a bold and diverse learning journey for the students that is distinctive to the School of Arts at UWE.
Our BA (Hons) Illustration course explores the shifting nature of Design Communication through subjects such as: visual narrative and book illustration, printmaking, reportage drawing, emerging technologies, 2D and 3D making, illustration into animation, art direction, editorial, publishing, and more. The course recruits strongly, achieves highly in national surveys and has been identified as an area of future growth and expansion, including through a new Masters pathway in Illustration and transnational educational partnerships.
