Post-Doctoral Research Associate (Fixed Term)

Applications are invited for a post-doctoral research associate to join Dr Jenny Zhang's lab at the Department of Chemistry on a project aimed at developing novel electron mediation strategies for living biohybrid devices for solar energy conversion.  

The successful applicant will design novel redox active molecules and polymer sol gels for microorganism-based biohybrid electrodes performing (photo)electrosynthesis. They will be expected to work in multi-disciplinary teams, including material scientists, electrochemists, and microbiologists. In particular, they will work with synthetic collaborators at Technical University of Munich to design and fabricate new electron mediation materials.

Applicants should have (or be about to obtain) a PhD in chemistry, materials science or related disciplines. It is essential that the applicant can demonstrate expertise in (bio)electrochemistry and polymer chemistry. Technical experience in synthesis, device fabrication, microbiology and/or surface characterisation are desirable. The candidate will gain experience in research toward clean energy generation, using a range of state-of-the-art chemical biology characterisation methods, as well as personal development and leadership skills.
