Job Description
Within the role you will take responsibility for delivering and developing the chemistry teaching as part of the wider science programme within the Secondary PGCE and will contribute to other programmes across the School of Education such as CPD and the professional component of the PGCE programme.
As you will be required to work on any of our sites or visit students on placements, possibly in remote areas, you will be expected to have a driving licence and access to a car.
About the Role
You will assist in managing the chemistry program (as part of the science PGCE team, working closely with biology and physics academic tutors) for Bath Spa teachers (trainees), combining this with academic tutor responsibilities.
You will also lead on subject knowledge and pedagogy teaching, particularly in the area of chemistry but may also contribute to the teaching of Bath Spa Teachers from other disciplines where appropriate.
Other responsibilities include contributing to our core curriculum, exploring a range of whole school issues pertinent to teacher trainees. In addition, you will be fully supported by the Programme Directors, who manage the operation of the wider Secondary PGCE programme.
The role includes moderation visits during school training, involving an element of quality assurance of mentors as well as support for the Bath Spa Teachers, ensuring that they get the best opportunities to become excellent teachers.
About You
You will have recent experience teaching chemistry across the secondary age phase and a strong background in mentoring or initial teacher education. You’ll bring a solid understanding of current teaching methodologies, exceptional ICT and e-learning skills, and a passion for pedagogical innovation.
With excellent communication, networking, and problem-solving abilities, you’ll thrive in a collaborative, student-centred environment. You will also be proactive, and a flexible team player with a commitment to best practices in teaching and learning.
Additional Information
The postholder will also be required to, at times, work unsociable hours, e.g.: Open events for prospective candidates, some early starts and late returns on school visits.
