About the role

We are seeking a Research Fellow to work on research related to the development of fully coupled computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and reduced order models for wave structure interaction (WSI) problems in support of the EPSRC-funded projects Collaborative Computational Project on Wave Structure Interaction (CCP-WSI) and High End Consortium on Wave Structure Interaction (HEC-WSI).

You will be working within the COAST Research Group in the School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics. The CCP-WSI and HEC-WSI projects aim to establish a leading-edge framework for computational research in WSI, positioning the community at the forefront of international computational research, with a strong focus on AI and machine learning. The focus is to build a robust and continuously evolving ecosystem for research software that supports ongoing and future computational needs, long-term sustainability, broad dissemination and utilisation via strong relationships within academic and industrial research communities and through proactive engagement and collaborative initiatives.

You will assist with development of a fully coupled model of a floating offshore wind turbine (FOWT) with CFD and computational structural mechanics (CSM) solvers through a new modelling framework and extend it to a compound AI approach surrogate model using AI advances made in the project. You will work with project partners to develop reduced order models for WSI by using AI based machine learning approaches. You will work within a multi-disciplinary team of researchers at the collaborating Universities and CoSEC, investigating the development of fully coupled CFD and surrogate models for WSI.  This role requires specialist knowledge and experience of numerical modelling of floating systems, CFD and experience of high performance computing.

There is an essential requirement within this role that you will be required to travel to and work at different University sites and/or other business locations that may not be easily accessible by public transport. Please refer to the job description for further information.
