Abertay is a modern university with a global outlook, rooted in its local and national communities. We have made our mark with high quality, well-directed teaching and research in food related disciplines, and a stimulating and enriching experience for our students.

We are now seeking a highly motivated science technology or engineering graduate to take a leading role in a 26-month project in partnership with MacIntyre Chocolate Systems Ltd aimed to develop for both food and non-food sectors novel market applications for MacIntyre’s existing Refiner/Conche. By utilising the MacIntyre's Refiner/Conche technology, the project aims to deliver a compact, efficient, and cost-effective solution for processing diverse materials into usable ingredients, thereby contributing to environmental sustainability and circular economy practices. The Associate will be employed by the Abertay University but is expected to work mainly from MacIntyre Chocolate Systems Ltd in Arbroath (near to Dundee). MacIntyre Chocolate Systems Ltd are an engineering/manufacturing company based in Arbroath, Scotland. MacIntyre are the leading brand for the production of Refiner/ Conche machines which are used worldwide to produce high quality chocolate products and ingredients. MacIntyre Chocolate Systems Ltd is part of Probat AG (parent group based in Emmerich am Rhein).

This 26-month fixed term post is with a starting salary of £28,000 to £35,000 per annum, funded through the government sponsored Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP). KTP supports partnerships between business and universities, placing graduates (KTP Associates) to work on strategic, innovative high-profile projects. The KTP Associate benefits from a personal development budget (allowing them to participate in courses / professional qualifications) of £2,000 per annum and provides an excellent opportunity to develop your career as an industry innovator.

Reporting to a team made up of industrial and academic supervisors, you will have at least an undergraduate degree (2.1 or above) and a background in mechanical or chemical engineering, or food processing or a specific food related degree with a processing discipline. In addition to having the appropriate background, the successful applicant will be an ambitious, enthusiastic person, with good interpersonal skills who can work either independently or as part of a team, using initiative and logical thinking. If appropriate, the post holder will be encouraged to register for a higher degree at the Abertay University.
